Bishop Dwane Brock hails from Cincinnati, OH, where he matriculated at the University of Cincinnati, Xavier University, and the Cincinnati Bible Seminary. After working his way through school, Bishop Brock was sent to Erie, Pennsylvania by his then Episcopal leader, Bishop Charles Herbert Foggie. At age 21 he pastored, rebuilt, and revitalized what many considered a dying church.
Upon leaving his first pastorate, Bishop answered the call to birth another church - a non-denominational church built solely on the Word of God. Victory Christian Center of Erie, Inc. was born in May 1989. The rest is truly an amazing history that ranges from the building of its first beautiful sanctuary; to the land acquisition and building of a neighborhood playground for inner city families; to the purchase and construction of several buildings which are now known as the Word of Faith Development Corporation.
Victory Christian Center's mission is dedicated to the biblical mandate of Isaiah 58: 10-12. This assignment is to create dynamic achievements in the lives of individuals who are assigned to its unique calling by the practical application of the laws of faith; the indoctrination of economic discipline and security; and the pursuit of spiritual and intellectual excellence.
In addition, the Ministry is presently in the development of a new sanctuary and worship center, as well as simultaneously embarking on a most challenging community initiative entitled “Repairing the Breach.” This initiative's objective is to reclaim family values, restore the spiritual and psychological infrastructure of our youth, and make the streets safe to dwell in again.
Bishop Brock’s accomplishments in 40+ years of ministry are too numerous to name. Amongst them being past president of the Erie Branch NAACP; former teacher and faculty member at Mercyhurst Prep High School; past president of the Erie Conference on African American Affairs; present treasurer of the Erie Housing Authority Board of Directors; and a highly respected member of the community.
